Post-it love

The week started off quite well for a Monday, I received a dinner invitation from the boy for Tuesday night, had a productive day at work and finally managed to beat my boss in a game of squash.
Tuesday in contrast was crap, things went wrong at work, a friend and work colleague told me she was leaving the ABS in 2 weeks and my date got cancelled at 4pm!. I was very disappointed and angry. After a long chat with my friend SO later that night I felt a lot better (thankyou). On Thursday I had a fancy lunch at Bistro Vue with some work friends as part of the Food and Wine Festival; it cost $30 for 2 courses and a glass of wine. The food was fantastic, small servings but enough for lunch. Thursday night I had a skype call with my friend TG, the delay was so bad that we had to say “over” at the end of each sentence, it was the funniest conversation I’ve had in ages, it was great to catch up with him.
Friday night my friend NZ and I decided to take advantage of the 2 for 1 cocktails on offer at various bars in the city (also as part of the festival). The first place we tried was the Golden Monkey, it was difficult to find in typical Melbourne tradition, badly sign posted and down some dodgy steps. But very cool inside, very Asian inspired with dim lighting, cushions and wooden Japanese style tables and chairs. The cocktail on offer was called ‘hot and stormy’; it contained grenadine, passionfruit, ginger beer and chilli….very interesting and VERY HOT. I drank 3 quarters of it mainly because it did taste nice (apart from the chilli aftertaste) and also because I’d heard that chilli was good for your metabolism!. It took ages to get the bill but finally we were on our way to the next place. We stopped off at GPO, couldn’t figure out how to work the lift, finally figured it out and arrived at level 2, the bar was crowded so we decided to leave. Off to the next place, somehow we got distracted by our conversation and walked 2 blocks in the wrong direction, then it started to rain, then it started to pour, we finally got to our destination, a bar called Mail Order Office, we were absolutely soaking wet, we must have looked like a scary sight walking in the door! (down some dodgy steps of course). This place was very small, very up-market, but also very cosy. We snagged some couches and ordered some wine plus a platter containing cheese, crackers and grapes. It was delicious; we settled back and watched the crowd.
We noticed a couple sitting behind us. They ordered wine but didn’t say much. The girl then got some post-it notes out of her bag, she wrote 2 notes and passed them to the boy. He read them but said nothing, for about 5 minutes there was silence. He then leaned forward and rested his forehead on her hands. She started talking and kept talking, he still hadn’t said more than a few words. They then moved to a more private area of the bar, they hugged and he was crying. It was the strangest scene, we speculated on what had happened up to that point and what they were talking about. It was extremely sweet.
We were also entertained by 2 waitresses who took an hour to rearrange the dining tables to accommodate a large group celebrating a birthday/'just had a baby’ party (this information came from our cute and very gentlemanly waiter).
And that was the end of yet another working week.

Hi ZJCroft. That conversation was absolutely hilarious. The tears rolling down my checks (from the laughter) and my sides aching. Must do it again soon. Over...ZJ are you there, over...ZJ?
